1 of Gupoliao Creek
Gupuoliao Creek is located in the Pinglin District of New Taipei City, situated along a stretch of Route 9, the Beiyi Highway, on the way from Pinglin to Jiaoxi. Within Gupuoliao Creek, you'll find a thriving population of Taiwan shovel-jaw carp, commonly known as "苦花" (kǔ huā). These fish have rather high water quality requirements and can only thrive in streams with water temperatures between 17 to 25 degrees Celsius, minimal pollution, and a significant water flow. They are omnivorous, with a primary diet of algae attached to rocks.
The artist's interpretation:
The spotted marks on the large rock to the right are bite marks from Taiwan shovel-jaw carp feeding on green algae.
