Tungsten Carbide-cobalt Coating
Tungsten carbide (chemical formula: WC) is a chemical compound containing equal parts of tungsten and carbon atoms. In its most basic form, tungsten carbide is a fine gray powder. Tungsten carbide is approximately two times stiffer than steel, and is double the density of steel. The role of cobalt in cemented carbides such as tungsten carbide is to provide a ductile bonding matrix for tungsten-carbide particles. The commercially significant cemented carbides contain cobalt in the range of 5 to 30 wt%. WC-Co coatings have higher hardness if the tungsten carbide level is higher. The coatings are resistant to sliding wear, impact(hammer) wear, fretting, particle erosion, cavitations and abrasion at temperatures up to 500 °C (930 °F) in non-corrosive media. Typical applications include steel rolls, sink rolls in zinc pots, corrugating rollers, agricultural rasp, exhaust fans, conveyor screws, sucker rod couplings, thread bars, valve ball, pump housings and impeller shafts.
Plus Metal Tech (PMT) provides services of protective and functional coatings, such as wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant, erosion-resistant, conductive and insulative coatings. Our thermal coating service is fully customized. Process choices depend on customer’s demands and the chosen materials. For any questions about surface treatment and enhancement, please do not hesitate to give us the message or email. We welcome for the discussion with you.
