＜Sacrificial Coating＞
The corrosion protection of large steel structures such as bridges, pipelines, oil tanks, towers, radio and television masts, large manufacturing facilities in the metallurgical, energy, chemical, and other industries is a critical issue. The protection of structures exposed to moist atmospheres and seawater such as ships, offshore platforms, seaports, is even more difficult. The surface to be protected is mostly thousands of square meters, therefore, the coating process is required to be more efficient and should be competitive with traditional painting methods.
    Flame and wire-arc spraying coatings are good solutions for the issues. The thermal sprayed coatings with thickness between 50 to 500 µm exhibit sacrificial property and have a cathodic behavior relatively to the substrate be protected. A sacrificial coating is a form of corrosion control done through the application of metal coating that have lower electrode potential values or those having higher levels in the electrochemical series. It builds a clear barrier or coat throughout the surface being protected. Materials for sacrificial coatings includes aluminum-zinc(Al-Zn) coating, aluminum-copper(Al-Cu) coating and zinc coating.
