<Nickel Chromium Aluminum Yttrium (NiCrAlY) Alloy Coating>
NiCrAlY alloys are common thermal spray coating materials known for their excellent resistance to oxidation and hot corrosion. Working temperature of the coatings is above 1050 °C (1920 °F). The chromium and aluminum in these coatings provide protection through the formation of an oxide scale. The addition of yttrium promotes the adhesion of this oxide layer. For ceramic coating systems such as thermal barrier coatings (TBC) and ceramic abradable systems, this dense, well-adherent scale is critical to prolong the life-time of parts working under high temperature. The alumina is an oxygen diffusion barrier that helps to minimize bond coat oxidation.
Typical uses of NiCrAlY coating are:
‧to minimize oxidation and extend life at higher temperature for iron, nickel or cobalt substrates
‧Resist oxidation and hot corrosion for aerospace industry, such as turbine components, airfoils, turbine buckets, blades and shrouds.
‧Dimensional restoration for mis-machined and worn parts
‧Protective heat-treating fixtures
‧To protect exhaust manifolds and ducts
For some additions such as chromium carbide, the NiCrAlY will provide excellent corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance at high temperatures. The applications include turbine blades, turbine air seal rings, turbine baffle dampers, turbine exhaust valve seats, turbine inner nozzle supports, support struts, fuel rod mandrels, forging tools, hot crushing rolls and hot forming dies.
