H. erinaceus (Bull. fr) Pers.(also known as Lion’s Mane, Monkey’s Head, and Yamabushitake) is one of the popular edible and medicinal mushrooms distributed in Asia, Europe, and North America, and it is rare in nature. H. erinaceus has been well known for Japanese cooking and herbal medicine, and hot aqueous extracts from dried fruit bodies are used as health drink called Houtou.
