It is reported that the length of the mosquito's "mouth" is 2 to 3 mm, and it is not a problem for it to penetrate through regular thin clothes. In the hot summer, who wants to wear thick clothes to resist mosquito bites? But, according to a new study from Rhode Island’s Brown University, graphene clothes can block the signals the mosquitos use to identify a blood meal, and potentially enabling a new chemical-free approach to mosquito bite prevention. During the experiment, when the tester’s arm was wrapped in cheesecloth and skin covered by graphene oxide films sheathed in the cheesecloth, but not only did the mosquitoes not bite through the protected skin, but they did not bite the exposed skin. The principle is quite simple, the graphene material is tough but not heavy, and so the mosquito's "mouth" cannot penetrate through the material. The material can successfully prevent human skin from mosquitos’ bites but also the material is thin so people won’t be uncomfortable wearing them. However, the graphene oxide material is still immature, and the biggest problem is that it needs to be in a dry state to be effective. Once the graphene oxide fabric is exposed to water, its anti-mosquito effect will be much worse than before.
