Florfenicol (FF) is broad-spectrum antibiotics, and belongs to the same group as Chloramphenicol (CAP), it is a fluorinated synthetic analog of thiamphenicol, mainly used in veterinary medicine; Florfenicol is also used in aquaculture, and is licensed for use in some countries for the control of enteric septicemia in catfish. It's used to treat most of Gram-positive, Gram-negative, Rickettsia and Spirochaeta. Since there are several serious side effects for the use of the CAP such as inhibiting the hematogenesis function of bone marrow and inducing aplastic anemia and agranulocytosis, FF eliminates those side effects to the minimum. FF has replaced traditional CAP, but it still has potential risks of causing diseases.
