EDI System
Electrodeionization (EDI) is often used as an alternative to mixed bed polishers and has the advantage of avoiding the use of acid and caustic. Systems are compiled from modular "stacks" to meet your flow rate requirement. The downside of EDI is that inlet water quality must be lower or equal to 1ppm TDS.
EDI is a mature electrically driven membrane demineralization process used to refine industrial process water to ultra-high purity for use in the power, microelectronics, food, chemical, pharmaceutical, and other industries. ROTEK's EDI system uses GE's EDI cell (E-Cell)which utilize high-capacity ion exchange membranes to remove not only residual salts but also ionizable aqueous species such as carbon dioxide, silica, ammonia and boron. EDI has an advantage over more traditional ion-exchange processes in that it eliminates the need for the frequently expensive and hazardous chemicals used in the ion exchange resin regeneration process.
Applications
EDI is useful for any application that requires constant and economic removal of water impurities without using dangerous chemical. Some examples are:
Since installation EDI units perform quite reliably, providing the customers with high purity production water for either power plant boiler feed or microchip rinse water. The water produced has met or exceeded customer high-purity water specifications. In addition, when a diluite stream cleaning was required as result of fouling, product quality was completely recovered.
