＜Chromium Carbide Coating＞
Chromium carbide is a ceramic compound that exists in several different chemical compositions: Cr3C2, Cr7C3,and Cr23C6. Generally, it exists as a gray solid in standard condition. It is extremely hard and corrosion resistant. It is also a refractory compound, which means that it keeps its strength at high temperatures as well. These properties make it useful as an additive to metal alloys. When chromium carbide are integrated into the metal matrix, it improves the wear resistance and corrosion resistance of the metal, and maintains these properties at high temperatures. Cr3C2 is the hardest and most commonly used composition for these proposes.
Thermal sprayed chrome carbide coatings are notable for several applications; one of its most significant benefits is its wear resistance in higher temperature environments and can be an excellent choice as an alternative to tungsten carbide. Although chrome carbide has less wear resistance then tungsten carbide, chrome carbide coatings with a nickel/chrome binder chemistry has better heat resistance and oxide resistance characteristics at higher temperatures and under corrosive or oxidizing conditions. Nickel-chrome alloy is the excellent choice to be the metal alloy matrix with chrome carbide, especially at high corrosive environment. Thermal sprayed chrome carbide coatings are appropriate for applications ranging from 540℃ to 815℃approximately.
